MSPs must understand the perspective of the employed & contracted physician and the hospital medical staff leaders when arranging for the expertise and resources for performing EPR. MSPs are beginning to play an important role in leading their colleagues with effective approaches to navigate between the physician being reviewed, the Medical Staff Peer Review Process and the Peer Review and Medical Executive Committees. This session will review the practical lessons from the field that ensure fair, objective and efficient EPR.

What You Will Learn:

  • Consult with and influence Quality Management, Senior Management and Medical Staff Leaders regarding criteria that should be addressed when performing EPR.
  • Explain the perspective of the employed and contracted physician regarding the need for and benefits of external peer review so that they can obtain objective review of the care provided to their patients.
  • Use approaches that bolster the MSPs role in identifying when EPR is necessary and mutually beneficial to patient care, the physician and to the hospital.
  • Use and teach the EPR facilitation mechanics algorithm to hospital staff and medical staff leaders involved with EPR.
  • Use the principals and preferred practices that are presented through four case studies demonstrating effective EPR.
